Keeping the Cost Down
LADIES • Trade dresses with your friends, kick it old school with a great vintage buy, or purchase a dress you KNOW you will (and can) wear again. • As far as shoes, go with a pair you already own. They don't need to be broken in, and you know they will be comfortable. Let's face it, you'll take them off halfway through the night anyways. • Have a friend who is in Cosmetology school style your hair, do your make-up, and nails. It's free and your friend gets some extra practice. • For accessories (purse, jewelry, etc.), hit up your local mall stores that specialize in inexpensive costume jewelry. • Purchase the boutonniere from the florist at your local grocery store. To a guy, a flower is a flower. • Many of you will want to have that sun-kissed glow. Opt for a bottle of self-tanner. It's cheaper than buying a tanning package, and way healthier for you. GENTLEMEN • If renting tuxes, go in a group. Sometimes after renting a certain number, you get one free. It's cheaper for 6 guys to pay for 5 tuxes rather than 6 tuxes. Consider buying a tux or suit; it may be cheaper in the long run. • Go for a nice pair of shoes you already own, or check out the sales section at a local department store. • For a nice haircut and shave, go with the old standby, your local barbershop. • Men's accessories are usually limited. Just remember to look clean cut and presentable. • Don't spend tons on a corsage. The florist at your grocery store has great choices that are much more inexpensive. FOR BOTH TO CONSIDER • Some schools provide dinner. But for the rest of you, ditch the fancy restaurants. Get your group together and have a potluck dinner. You will be eating food you like, at a cheaper price, and won't have to worry about making reservations, or cutting the size of your group down. • Transportation is always a big deal. Who doesn't want to feel like a movie star and arrive in a limo? Make sure you shop around for a good deal; don't just go with the first advertisement you see. Going with the most recent model can be pricier; ask for last year's model. And if there are only a few of you, go with a fancy car. You will still be arriving in style, and won't be spending as much.
